Monthly Meditation Retreat
A one-day vipassana meditation retreat is conducted on the second weekend of every Saturday and Sunday of the month. The timetable consists of a short introduction
to meditation, and then sitting and walking meditation, which are done alternatively.
The programme
begins at 9am in the morning and ends at
5pm in the afternoon.
There is
no charge for the teaching. And, you do not need to bring
food for yourself, unless you wish to. The Vihara will arrange
it for you.
If you join
the retreat for the first time, we will appreciate it very
much if you could let us know one or two days in advance.
Friday
Meditation and Chanting
Chanting
and meditation calm and bring peace to your mind. Meditation
helps you to first control and then understand your own
emotional function in daily life.
At the Oxford
Buddha Vihara there is a communal chanting, followed by
a meditation class every Friday from 7:00-8:30pm. The chanting
is in Pail and lasts 30 minutes. There are chanting books
kept in the shrine room, which people may use, to follow
the chanting.
Meditation
begins at 7pm. The class is usually taught by Venerable
Dhammasami and his assistant Venerable Pannyavamsa and is
mainly conducted in English. Venerable Dhammasami has been
conducting such weekly meditation classes in the United
Kingdom since 1996 and Venerable Pannyavamsa has been assisting
him from October 2004.
After about
30-40 minutes of sitting, there follows a session of question
and answer, during which the meditator may clear his doubt
or discuss matters related to his meditation practice.
Everybody
is welcome.
