We currently offer the following activities to our community:
- Evening chanting and meditation at 7pm every evening.
- Meditation followed by discussion every Friday night (7pm start)
- Weekend meditation retreat (Saturday/Sunday 9-5) on the second Sunday of each month.
- Weekend activities for children and young people.
- 'Dhamma' classes exploring the Buddha's teaching.
- Buddhist library in English, Pali, Burmese and Thai.
- Buddhist ceremonies and blessings for birth, death, marriage and other important life transitions.
- Occasional group pilgrimages to holy Buddhist sites.
- Celebrations marking festivals in the Buddhist calendar
- Educational visits to local schools
- Opportunities to support the Vihara through donations of work, goods or money, including mindful work days.
- Accommodation for individual and group retreats.
- Newsletters in English, Thai and Burmese languages.
The Abbot
Venerable Dhammasami is both the founder and the head of the OBV. Having been in the monastic order for more than thirty years, he has been teaching Vipassana meditation in the United Kingdom and other parts of the world since 1996 and since 2002 participated in various academic conferences on Buddhism in USA, UK and Southeast Asia.
He is also the founder/ Executive Secretary of the Association of Theravada Buddhist Universities (ATBU) (
www.atbu.org ) and of the International Association of Buddhist Universities (IABU) (
www.iabu.org ).
Venerable Dhammasami is a trustee and Fellow of the Oxford Centre for Buddhist Studies, Oxford University; Professor at International Theravada Buddhist missionary University, Rangoon, Burma; and a visiting professor at Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University, Bangkok, Thailand.
