Oxford Buddha Vihara was founded in 2003 by Venerable Dr Khammai Dhammasami from Shan State in Myanmar and has since developed into a thriving community of monks and lay Buddhists from many countries and cultures, welcoming visitors from all faiths and none.

Make yourself at home in the kitchen and help yourself to tea, coffee and food if you are hungry. If you are not sure what to do, just ask .
Our library is located in the first garden hut. You can use it anytime and borrow books by filling in a borrowing form. If the door is locked then the key is on the key hooks in the kitchen. If the library is cold then turn on the heater (wall switch) and please turn it off before you leave.
The second garden hut can be used for meditation at any time, so if you want to come and sit quietly for a while you can use this hut. Make sure to turn on the heating if you are cold.
Our two main shrine rooms are used for group chanting and meditation every day at 7:00am and 7.30pm – open to all with tea and coffee afterwards.
The shrine rooms are also generally used by visitors for socialising, eating, having conversations with the monks and for various ceremonies and blessings. Feel free to join in.
OBV’s second branch is located at the Forest of Dean, in Gloucestershire. It was acquired by OBV in 2018 with the support of our generous devotees.
